The final of the UEFA Champions League will see Barcelona play Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, England May 28, 20:45 GMT. Barcelona won an ill-tempered semi-final against their Spanish rivals Real Madrid while Manchester United were easy winners over Schalke.

Barcelona entered the knock-out to play Arsenal in the pre-quarter-final game. They lost their home game 2-1 but went on to rout Arsenal at home, 3-1 to enter the quarters. There, they were easy winners over Shahktar before the foul-mouthed game against the Real Madrid side.

Barcelona have won the title twice before this.

Manchester United drew with Marseille away before winning the home game 2-1 to face Chelsea in the quarter-final. It was a one-sided quarter-final in that Chelsea lost both the games for the Manchester United to enter the semi-finals. Schalke, the German side, were bundled out 2-0 and 4-1 to allow Manchester United attempt their fourth win in the tournament.

Interestingly, Barcelona beat Manchester United in the final of the 2009 edition of the Champions League.

Manchester United’s dominance in the EPL ended last week with a lacklustre display leading to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates. The disappointing result blows the title race wide open with Chelsea looking to take full advantage of the Reds stutter.

Sir Alex Ferguson again criticised match officials in the aftermath saying Man U were denied a penalty late in the game. Manchester United are unbeaten at home this season and will be hopeful of ending the season with that accolade. However, they have their work cut out for them against a Chelsea side high in confidence.

Just a matter of weeks ago Chelsea almost wrote off their title aspirations. However, a string of results have put them right back in contention. Success is now in Carlo Ancelotti’s sides hands if they can overcome Man U at Old Trafford. Controversial goals from Lampard and Kalou gave Chelsea all 3 points against Spurs in their most recent encounter.
