Sunderland face a tough game against Tottenham this weekend as they aim to get their challenge for an European spot back on track.

The Black Cats slipped to a 3-2 loss against Stoke City last week despite being in the lead twice during the game. . Kieran Richardson had put Sunderland ahead after 2 minutes, but John Carew evened things up on 32 minutes. Asamoah Gyan slotted in just after the break, but a second-half brace from Robert Huth ensured that the Potters grabbed all points on offer. Manager Steve Bruce was disappointed with his side’s showing and is continuing to feel the absence of Darren Bent as the lack of strike options laid his team low once again.

Meanwhile Tottenham beat Bolton 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Niko Kranjcar. Rafael van der Vaart had put Spurs in the lead only for Daniel Sturridge to nullify that strike in the second half. Just when it looked that the sides would settle for a point each, Kranjcar slotted home to ensure that Spurs grabbed all three points. The win gives Tottenham a massive boost and a realistic chance of finishing in the top 4 this season as well. Younes Kaboul and Luka Modric continue to miss out, but Gareth Bale could be back for this game.
