Liverpool will be hoping to start the New Year on a high when they welcome Bolton to Anfield this weekend.
The Reds have had a restful Boxing Day as their game against Blackpool was postponed due to the weather conditions. The time off will have given manager Roy Hodgson some breathing space as he looks to get his tactics right and put his side back on track for a top six finish, which will ensure that European football comes to Anfield again next season. Steven Gerrard will be back for this game, but Jamie Carragher continues to be sidelined as he is recovering from a dislocated shoulder.
Meanwhile Bolton climbed up to the sixth spot on the league table with a 2-0 win over West Brom on Boxing Day thanks to goals from Matt Taylor and Johan Elmander. Boss Owen Coyle will be delighted with his side’s showing and will hope it continues in the same vein for the rest of the season. Coyle is keen to add to his squad and will do business in January especially as Chung-Yong Lee is to join up South Korea for the Asia Cup next month.
