Tottenham will look to leapfrog a floundering Chelsea into the top four when they welcome Fulham this weekend.
The Spurs beat Aston Villa 1-2 over the Boxing Day to move to 30 points from 18 games; just one shy of Chelsea. A brace from Rafael van der Vaart ensured that Marc Albrighton’s 82ndminute goal was mere consolation for the hosts. Manager Harry Redknapp believes his side can challenge for the title this season and is looking to sign at least three players in January to maintain that challenge.
Meanwhile media reports indicate that Fulham boss Mark Hughes has been given three games to save his job at Craven Cottage. The reports started after the Cottagers sank to a 1-3 defeat to West Ham on Boxing Day. Aaron Hughes had given Fulham the lead on 11 minutes, but a brace from Carlton Cole and a goal from Frederic Piquionne ensured that the Hammers got all three points. With Bobby Zamora out for at least the foreseeable future, Hughes is keen to sign a forward in January.
