Aston Villa will be hoping to arrest their slide down the league table by securing their seventh successive victory over their arch rivals Birmingham City on Sunday.
While Villa have put up some good performances since the appointment of Gerard Houllier as the new manager, they have very little to show for it with the club managing to collect just five points from their last five games and slip down to 10th in the league table. While his side is not expected to put up another challenge for a top four spot this season, Houllier will be aware that anything less than a European spot this season will be seen as a failure by the fans.
Birmingham on the other hand will be hoping that their excellent performance against Blackpool last weekend will prove to be the turning point this season as they look to overcome a poor start and repeat their excellent performance from last season.
Roger Johnson should recover from his calf injury to take part in the derby against Villa though there are fitness concerns over Martin Jiranek and David Murphy. Villa will be without Stiliyan Petrov who is out for at least six weeks with a knee injury while Gabriel Agbonlahor is yet to recover from his groin strain.
