Northern Ireland upset Slovenia last month in Maribor thanks to Corry Evans’ 70th minute strike at Stadion Ljudski vrt. It was Evans’ first international goal and it brought an end to his country’s ten game winless run.
Italy played two qualifiers last month- one more than NI. Against Estonia, they trailed 1-0 at half time before second half goals from Antonio Cassano and Leonardo Bonucci sealed the issue. Alberto Gilardino, Daniele de Rossi, Cassano, Fabio Quaglirella and Andrea Pirlo were on target for the former world champions against the Faroes.
The two sides last met in June last year, when a youthful Italian team prevailed 3-0 in a friendly in the city of Pisa thanks to goals from Giuseppe Rossi, Pasquale Foggia and Sergio Pellissier.
