Off to their worst start to a new season, Liverpool find themselves 19th in the league table and have managed to avoid slipping down to the foot of the table thanks to a superior goal difference. However with West Ham returning to form, Liverpool could find themselves in their lowest position ever in the top division of English football should they fail to beat Blackburn this weekend.
With the takeover saga over, focus will now be on manager Roy Hodgson to turn his side’s woeful form around with the pressure having increased on the former Fulham manager after the new owners watched their side suffer a disappointing 2-0 defeat to arch rivals Everton last weekend.
While Liverpool have not lost to Blackburn in the last six meetings between the two sides, Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce will be fancying his chances of claiming all three points at Anfield this weekend.
Blackburn will be without captain Christopher Samba who was sent off against Sunderland last weekend while there are fitness concerns over Ryan Nelson and David Dunn. Liverpool could bench Fernando Torres who is clearly out of form while Daniel Agger is the only major injury concern.
