Newcastle will be without a manager when they face Liverpool this weekend.
Newcastle slumped to a 3-1 loss to West Brom thanks to a brace from Peter Odemwingie and another goal from Somen Tchoyi. Peter Lovenkrands scored a goal in the 90th minute in what was mere consolation for his side. The game was also the last was boss Chris Hughton, who was sacked by the club, citing the need for more experience at the helm. Marin Jol has been linked to the job, but it is unclear if any manager will be appointed before this game.
Liverpool look to be back at their peak form after a splendid 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday. Goals from David Ngog, Ryan Babel and Maxi Rodriguez gave the Reds all three points and took them to the 8th spot on the league table with 22 points from 16 games. Manager Roy Hodgson will be delighted with his team’s efforts especially as Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher are all out with injuries. Hodgson will be hoping for a similar performance at St James’ Park as well.
