A beleaguered Fulham take on Birmingham at Craven Cottage on Saturday hoping to avoid slipping into the relegation zone by notching up a win.
The Cottagers were humbled 1-4 by Manchester City last week thanks to a brace from Carlos Tevez and a goal each from Pablo Zabaletta and Yaya Toure. Zoltan Gera netted a consolation goal for the home side. The loss left Fulham boss Mark Hughes under immense pressure as it sees them stay just above the relegation zone thanks mainly to a superior goal difference over Wigan. The absence of Bobby Zamora with a broken leg appears to have hurt Fulham badly as they have no strike options upfront. Hughes will need to solve this puzzle quickly, else he will be facing a long season indeed.
Birmingham on the other hand are on a massive high following their 1-0 win over defending champions Chelsea. Lee Bowyer scored the only goal of the game, which came from the only chance Birmingham had been able to create in all 90 minutes. The Blues had keeper Ben Foster to thank for the win as he made a number of brilliant saves to keep Chelsea away. Birmingham boss Alex McLeish will hope this win kick-starts their season and results in a improved showing for the rest of the season.
