Avram Grant could be out of a job by the weekend should his West Ham side fail to beat Wigan Athletic when the two teams meet in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
A disastrous start to the season has seen West Ham sit firmly at the foot of the league table with just nine points from 14 games. With theHammers still six points away from safety, fans and the board is getting worried over their side’s survival chances, media reports suggest that anything less than six points from their next three games could see the end of Grant’s reign as the Hammers manager.
Though both the West Ham owners have expressed their confidence in Grant and said that his job is safe, a poor return from the next three games against Wigan, Sunderland and Manchester City could increase the likelihood of West Ham returning to the Championship for the first time in six years.
West Ham should collect all three points against a Wigan Athletic side that will be without two of their key players. Antolin Alcaraz and Hugo Rodallega were sent off during Wigan’s defeat to Manchester United last weekend and will be unavailable for the game against West Ham this weekend.
Manager Roberto Martinez was pleased with his side’s display in spite of the defeat and expressed his confidence that they will soon pull away from the relegation zone.
