Sunderland will be hoping to build on their wonderful showing against Chelsea last week when they welcome Everton to the Stadium of Light on Monday night.
The Black Cats beat the defending champions Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in a splendid result for the manager and fans alike. Goals from Nedum Onuoha, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck gave Sunderland all three points and took them to the 6th spot on the league table. Manager Steve Bruce admitted that while the result could not erase the pain of the 5-1 loss to local rivals Newcastle, it does show that his team is on the upswing. For this game, Darren Bent and Anton Ferdinand miss out with ankle injuries, while John Mensah is a doubtful starter with a shoulder issue.
Meanwhile Everton sank to a 2-1 loss to Arsenal in a game made controversial by refereeing decisions. Goals from Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas were enough to give Arsenal all three points even though Everton pulled one back through Tim Cahill. Manager David Moyes was disappointed with the result, but hoped that his side could recover from that result in upcoming games.
